Earlier this week I was talking with my blog buddy, Shayla.  She lives in Oklahoma and I live in Virginia, and both of us (as I suspect much of the country) have been melting in the heat.  We are both lovers of fall, and both of us have seen no sign of changing leaves or frost on the doorsteps.  Where is fall, already? Yes, I know…its early September, and fall doesn’t really start for another few weeks.  But, come on mother nature, don’t you know this is my favorite time of year?  Enough with the hot, humid days.  Bring on the cool, crisp days of fall.

Well, Mother Nature may or may not be listening to me, as we have yet another day in the 90’s today in Virginia.  I’ve really been craving the flavors of fall, but just can’t bear to turn on my oven, or suck down a hot pumpkin spice latte when I’m sweatin’ through my shirt.  So, its time to get creative.  This morning I decided to make a nice frosty cold smoothie that will not only satiate my need for some fall flavors, but also not leave me overheated.

I’ve never made a smoothie with pumpkin before, so I was kinda winging it.  I pulled some ingredients together thinking this could go great, or horribly.  Well, it turned out AMAZING!!  When I first took a sip, I though, “OMG!  This tastes like a creamy piece of pumpkin pie!”  Here is how it came together:

Dreamy Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

Creamy, dreamy pumpkin spice smoothie that makes a great fall breakfast or treat. Make it with your kids for a delicious after-school snack

  • 1 1/2 c. vanilla frozen yogurt
  • 1 c. skim milk (or whatever milk you have on hand)
  • 1/2 c. pumpkin puree (like Libby's)
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg


  1. In a liquid measuring cup, measure your pumpkin puree. Add your sugar and spices, and stir together to dissolve. Set aside. In a blender, add the frozen yogurt and milk, then add the pumpkin spice mixture. Blend together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into your favorite glasses, and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
  3. Enjoy!

I shared a recipe for a warm pumpkin drink the other day, but you are so right...your smoothie is much more suited to the high 90s we're still experiencing in Texas!
