Once things get busy, does your purse get overly disorganized and messy? I’ve got 4 Fool-Proof Tips to keeping your Purse Organized so you can find everything you need quickly and easily. Also included are some yummy snack ideas, perfect for busy mom’s on the go!
Earlier this week was my son’s first day of school. All of his school supplies were neatly organized in a tote, and his backpack was properly organized with his summer reading log, summer math workbook, and a few other projects that he had completed. I, on the other hand, was a complete mess. As usual, I was flying out the door, trying to juggle my phone, a coffee cup, and a poor excuse of a purse. When we got to the school gym where school orientation was taking place, I had realized that I had forgot two very important documents at home. If only I had neatly stashed them in my purse, it would have saved me an extra trip to and from the school!
After this busy, frustrating morning, I decided right then and there I needed to get my stuff together, starting with my purse! Here’s how I pulled it together and got my purse organized. I’ve come up with four tips that will help you do it, too!
Tip 1: Empty Everything out of your Purse
The first thing I did was completely empty everything out. EVERYTHING!! I threw away old receipts, garbage, wrappers and tissues. You’ll quickly discover things you didn’t even know you had, and items that you don’t need that you’re unnecessarily hauling around.
I then sorted my belongings into categories. Yes, I know I have quite a bit of lip gloss – this is actually the remainder. I threw away a few old tubes, and another that was nearly empty. I also discovered that I had three pairs of sunglasses in there taking up valuable real estate. Only one pair will fit on my face at any given time, so I chose my favorite, and set the rest aside.
Tip 2: Divide like-items into clear plastic pouches
While I was at Walmart, I cruised through the school supply section where they had these fantastic clear plastic binder pouches. I realized these are the perfect size for my purse! These will group together my health & beauty supplies, all of my lip glosses, and hair ties, as well as a pouch for snacks! Using clear pouches allows you to easily see what you have, and find what you need, without digging through countless items and pockets.
I discovered a while back that keeping smart snacks in my purse is a really helpful tool for me. Often times if I’m out running errands, or headed to school to pick up my son, having a quick go-to snack is a great way to prevent me from hitting the drive-thru or local convenience store where I’m bound to make unhealthy choices. These goodnessknows® snack squares are a fantastic on-the-go snack for busy mom’s like me.
These bars are the perfect size to fit in the clear plastic zipper pouches, and a really yummy snack when I’m in the car going from point A to point B. Each pack contains four delicious snack squares, and contain no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. An entire package is only 150 calories, and contains real fruit, dark chocolate, and whole nuts in bite-sized portions. For me, these are the perfect snack while waiting in the car-pool line, or headed to baseball practice.
Along with the zipper bags, I was able to grab these goodnessknows® snack squares at Walmart. Check the check-out aisle for a variety of flavors for these yummy on-the-go snacks!
While organizing my purse, I made sure to add a zipper bag dedicated just for snacks. I’m easily able to grab these in the car, sitting at Tae Kwon Do or baseball practice, or attending a school meeting.
Tip 3: Add a Lobster Clasp Keychain to your Keys
Finding my keys in the bottomless pit that was my purse was constantly a problem, until I got one of these clasps. My keys no longer go IN my purse – instead they go out the OUTSIDE of my purse, clasped to one of the handle loops. This has saved me a ton of time looking for my keys, and has become especially handy when loading groceries in the car. Having your keys on the outside of your purse, is also safer, as you’re less likely to be a distracted person in a crowded parking lot. The keys will always be at hand, ready when you are.
Tip 4: Hole-punch your store loyalty cards, and add them to a key ring
I constantly get compliments on this, when I have cashiers scan my cards. “Oh, what a neat idea!” or “Wow! That’s a great way to keep all of your cards together!” It really is! As you can see, I’ve got a ton of these darn things. Instead of them crowding my wallet, or floating randomly in my purse, I’ve organized them in one neat stack. I have sorted them in alphabetical order, hole-punched the corner (making sure to avoid the magnetic strip or bar code), and then added them to a key ring. You can also use a binder-ring, as this works just as well. I typically keep these in an outside pocket of my purse for easy access.
As you can see, my purse is now neatly organized. My wallet, phone and sunglasses, along with the three clear pouches are neatly visible, accessible and organized. No more digging, searching, and cursing at myself that I can never find anything. There is plenty of extra room, should I need to tote something extra.
Today in the carpool line, there were about 18 cars in front of me. I realized that I had snacks in my purse, so I enjoyed some delicious Peach & Cherry Almond Dark Chocolate goodnessknows® snack squares. This was the perfect snack while waiting in line. I realized that something as simple as having an organized purse helped me make a smart food choice during my day. This is definitely something to feel good about!
