Every year at Christmas time I say to myself, "I going to start earlier next year."  Meaning, start the holiday shopping, baking, card-making and all the other stuff that goes along with Christmas.  I truly enjoy doing these things, and I would certainly cut back and eliminate if things got too crazy.  But putting these things off until the month of December, when I know I could at least start in say, October, would certainly make things less stressful come 13 days until Christmas. Several weeks back, just after school had started, my son came home from school and quickly asked, "Mom, can I have a "Flufftella" sandwich in my lunch tomorrow?"  I said, "Flufftella sandwich?  What is that?"  Harrison then proceeded to tell me that his friend Michael has that for lunch almost every day.  He said, "Mama, it looks so yummy!  It has Nutella and Marshmallow fluff in it.  Get it?... Flufftella!  Can I have one, please?" Well, a few days later we packed him a Flufftella sandwich in his lunchbox.  He was one happy boy! I am writing today after a wonderful weekend.  The weather was FINALLY fall-like, in the mid-70's and cool, crisp mornings.  On Sunday morning my 5 year old had his very first flag football game.  The game was at 9am, and despite hot weather of a few days ago, it was only 50 degrees at game time.  The boys did really well, and even had an interception in the game!   Pretty awesome for flag football, lemme tell ya!  I was such a proud Mama!  We had so much fun watching Harrison and his teammates play, and our friends Jeff and Jeanine and their kids came to watch, too.  It made for a great weekend with family and friends.                 While getting ready for the game the night before, I knew we would need to leave Continue Reading...

Strawberry Rhubarb Jam

  Harrison and I came back to my home town, Burke, SD to visit my family for a couple weeks.  Unlike last summer, they've had lots of rain and sunshine, which has helped the local crops and gardens grow leaps and bounds.  My dad's strawberry patch is no exception.  I've never seen strawberry plants as full and plentiful as these. Dad has picked several gallons of strawberries so far this summer, filling up their freezer for fall and winter.  Since they have a nice sized rhubarb plant, I thought hmmmm, what could we make with copious amounts of strawberries and rhubarb?  Jam!!!  I raided mom's basement pantry of miscellaneous jars, picked up some jar flats, and pectin at the local grocery store, and pulled out the big pot.  In a couple hours we had several jars of sweet, Continue Reading...
