Creamy Chicken Broccoli and Cheese Soup

Creamy Chicken Broccoli and Cheese Soup

Is it cold outside where you are?  Here in Northern, VA its been pretty cold (at least, for these parts), for a couple weeks now.  Winter doesn't officially start until next week, however, I'm thinking its pretty much here.  Anytime there is a nip in the air, I'm in the mood for soup, stew, chili - basically, a hot meal you eat out of a bowl.  Also, something that goes with a nice, crusty, cheesy piece of bread to sop up all the broth is even better! My mom makes an AMAZING pot of broccoli cheese soup.  This recipe is an adaptation of hers - Its so good that the church had asked her to make it for their annual soup supper for many years.  She would make a HUGE, roaster sized batch of this soup, and it would usually be gone by the end of the night.  People love it because its, Continue Reading...

BBQ Chicken and Red Grape Pizza

BBQ Chicken and Red Grape Pizza

Do you and your family have Pizza night every once in a while?  As a kid I remember having pizza for dinner was such a treat.  Mostly because it was one of the few times we were allowed to have soda with our meal.  :)  I grew up in a small town, where the only place you could get pizza from the grocery store freezer, or your own oven.  I still really enjoy a good homemade pizza, even though we now live in suburban Washington, DC where you can get a pizza delivered to your house within the hour. Slow Cooker September: Slow Cooker Country Curry Chicken

Slow Cooker September: Slow Cooker Country Curry Chicken

So, I've had my new slow cooker for about three weeks now, and I've used it at least 10 times.  It really is one of the hardest working appliances in my house, and has saved me hours of meal prep already.  I truly love the fact that I can throw together a meal in the early afternoon, run errands, take my son to football practice and have a hot meal ready to go when we walk through the door.  I am forever grateful to the person that invented this ingenious piece of equipment! This week I made one of my family's slow cooker favorites: Country Curry Chicken.  Don't let the curry part throw you off - the recipe calls for sweet yellow curry, which is mild and not overly spicy.  (My five-year-old could easily eat a full dinner plate of this tasty meal!) The recipe also includes golden raisins Continue Reading...

Loaded Crock Pot Chili

Loaded Crock Pot Chili

Loaded Crock Pot Chili Loaded with delicious peppers, onion, beans and ground beef, this Loaded Crock Pot Chili recipe is amazing!  A fantastic healthy dinner idea that's easy enough for any night of the week. Chili is something that my family absolutely loves during the winter months. A warm, comforting bowl of soup is always welcome on cold nights. This Loaded Slow Cooker Chili recipe is fantastic - not only does it taste amazing, it's incredibly simple to make. It's just a matter of browning ground beef, chopping up a pepper and onion and letting the slow cooker do the rest. My chili recipe probably isn't much different that most others, however, I tend to enjoy this recipe because of all the extras I throw in.  I like to include green and red peppers, onions, beans Continue Reading...
