Ginger Peach Moscow Mule – a fresh take on the classic Moscow mule recipe!
We’re at the tail end of summer, but the delicious Virginia peaches are still in their peak! I love nothing more than making a trip down to my farmers market and loading up on local yellow peaches. They are as sweet as candy, and perfect for adding to these cold, crisp Ginger Peach Moscow Mule.
Much like the classic moscow mule recipe, these mules are made with ginger beer and lime juice. Adding some fresh peach juice or nectar, is the perfect way to turn this classic cocktail into an amazing summertime libation!
Here’s how the simple Ginger Peach Moscow Mules recipe is made:
Step 1: Fill up a classic copper mug with crushed ice
According to Liquor.com, legend has it that back in the late 1930’s when the Moscow Mule recipe was originally created, bartender Wes Price of the renowned Brittish Pub Cock n’ Bull in Los Angeles had ordered far too much ginger beer and was having a hard time getting rid of it.
Additionally, vodka was just making its way to America, but the newly acquired Smirnoff was having a hard time catching on, as Americans were leery of drinking the liquor. Apparently, his girlfriends family owned a copper company and copper mugs were easy to come by.
With a bit of testing, Price combined the ginger beer, vodka and added lime and thus, came up with the Moscow mule recipe, served in an icy copper mug. The rest is cocktail history.
Copper mugs: you can now find copper mugs at just about any retailer that sells dinner ware and drink ware. Online retailers are also a sure-fire way to find some pretty copper mugs for drinking these Moscow Mules.
Step 2: Add Ginger Beer & Vodka
To your copper mug that has been filled with crushed ice, add the ginger beer and vodka. These are essential ingredients to any Moscow mule recipe. I recommend choosing a good quality vodka – I like Tito’s, but choose the best quality you can afford.
Side note: If you want a more intense peach flavor, feel free to substitute a regular vodka for a peach flavored vodka.
Step 3: Add the lime and peach juices
When purchasing limes, I would recommend buying a single lime per cocktail. You’ll need approximately 1/2 of a lime for juice, and then budget the other half of the lime for slices to add to the cocktail.
Peach juice or nectar: this can typically be found wherever juices are sold, however, I know it is not widely available. Here’s a tip for making your own peach juice.
Using fresh or canned peaches, remove any exterior peel. Place peeled peaches into a blender and puree. Run the puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Add the juice to your Ginger Peach Moscow Mule!
Step 4: Garnish and Enjoy!
I placed a peach slice and twisted lime slice onto a cocktail skewer, however, feel free to add these right into the cocktail for additional flavor. This cold, crisp cocktail is perfect for enjoying on a warm summer evening. Great for kicking back on your patio or deck after a long day, and perfect for enjoying as a pre-dinner cocktail. Cheers, my friends!
