My friend Jill and I are always trying to get together for drinks. With our busy schedules, spouses, kids’ activities and school commitments, it seems like going out is more of a hassle than it is a relaxing evening. For us, having a night where we can just throw on some yoga pants, enjoy some wine and watch a movie is always more relaxing than fighting the bar crowd.
Jill and I decided we were overdue for one of our movie nights! With this in mind, I made a trip to ALDI to grab all of our movie night essentials – wine and snacks!
ALDI has absolutely everything you need, and more for a fantastic wine night at home. Did you know that ALDI carries a great selection of affordable, award-winning wines? I picked up a bottle of Broken Clouds Pinot Noir, which was voted 2017 Product of the Year in the wine category. Wine Enthusiast also gives it 91 Points and a Best Buy ranking as well as placing it at #22 for the Top 100 Best Wine Buys for 2016.
I also picked up a bottle of Outlander Cabernet Sauvignon and Giretto Pinot Grigio, which are both also award-winning! Additionally, I grabbed lots of snacks to go with each of these wines, so Jill and I will have a fantastic movie night!
Here’s how I paired each wine and the snacks I chose to go with them – all of which came from ALDI!
Pairing #1: Outlander Cabernet Sauvignon
Because Cabs are full-bodied, rich, and full of flavor, I wanted to match it with some rich, and fruity flavors. This wonderful Outlander Cabernet Sauvignon has hints of caramel, so pairing it with these fantastic Specially Selected Dark Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Caramels was a natural fit.
In addition to the caramels I also picked up some fresh pears and grapes, which added some light, fruity flavors. This pairing is perfect for a happy hour at home, and perfect for our movie night.
Pairing #2: Giretto Pinot Grigio
This Giretto Pinot Grigio will be a new favorite for every white wine lover! It’s wonderfully crisp and fruity, so pairing it with some fantastic Priano Asiago Cheese (a 2017 Chefs in America award winner!), Appleton Farms Black Peppered Dry Flavored Salami, and Specially Selected Cheddar Cheese Crackers was a natural fit.
All of these wonderful Italian flavors come together perfectly, making this white wine pairing fantastic for your next girls night in or an after-work snack with your spouse.
Pairing #3: Broken Clouds Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is my personal wine favorite, and this Broken Clouds Pinot Noir is one of the best I’ve had! It’s wonderfully smooth with amazing flavors of berries and spices. I wanted to make something special to enjoy with this award-winning Sonoma Coast wine, so I created this fantastic recipe for Slow Cooker Honey Roasted Mixed Nuts.
Made in the slow cooker, this super-simple snack is absolute perfection with this Broken Clouds Pinot Noir. Fantastic for snacking during a movie, and a great addition for your next holiday party.
Here’s the simple steps to creating this fantastic SLOW COOKER HONEY ROASTED MIXED NUTS recipe.
Step 1: Gather all your Ingredients from ALDI
This super simple roasted nut recipe, requires just 6 ingredients, all of which come from ALDI! For this recipe I chose Southern Grove Almonds, Cashews and Pecan Halves for the mix of nuts.
You’ll also need Specially Selected Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Specially Selected Raw Honey, and Stonemill Sea Salt.
Step 2: Add the Nuts to the Slow Cooker
Using a slow cooker to make a nut or snack mix is a fantastic alternative to using your oven. Once you’ve added the pecans, cashews and almonds, add 2 Tbsp. of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil and ½ cup of honey over the nuts, and stir well to coat.
Step 3: Roast the Nuts
Set your slow cooker on high, and roast the honey coated nuts for about 2 hours. Stir the nuts every 30-45 minutes, so the nuts roast evenly.
Step 4: Cool the Nuts at Room Temperature
Once the nuts are done roasting, place them on a pan lined with parchment or waxed paper and let come to room temperature. Sprinkle with sea salt.
As the nuts cool, they will still be slightly sticky. You may need to break them apart slightly before placing in a serving dish.
