Well, I don’t know about you, but I definitely overdid-it with food over the holidays. As usual, I ate way too much, and my jeans are fitting a little tighter. Happens to the best of us, right?
Along with eating too much, I also ended up getting a nasty cold and cough, which I haven’t been able to shake. I’m feeling like my body is in need of some TLC and some healthy fruits and veggies. To soothe my sore throat, and to get a little more vitamin C, I was really craving something cold. This Strawberry Pomegranate Smoothie was the perfect remedy!
All you need to make this super-healthy smoothie, is a blender. It’s perfect for a healthy snack, or a great breakfast when you need to get out the door quick.
This smoothie packs a punch, with two full servings of fruit, a full serving of dairy, and since its made with Greek yogurt, it also provides about 7 -12 (depending on what type you use) grams of protein which will help you stay fuller longer. The strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C and fiber. Additionally, pomegranates are considered a super-fruit, as they are a great source of Vitamin C, B-12, folate and are a know to fight free radicals within the body. I feel better already knowing I’m putting such a healthy food into my body!
- 1 c. (about 6-8 medium) frozen, strawberries
- 1/3 c. pomegranate seeds
- 1/3 c. pomegranate juice (such as Pom)
- 1 (5.3 oz.) cup of strawberry flavored Greek Yogurt (like Chobani, or Dannon Light and Fit Greek)
- Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Makes one large smoothie.
Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up a bag or two of frozen strawberries and grab a pomegranate from the produce section. You’ll do yourself good with such a great, healthy drink.
Cheers to a happy, prosperous and healthy 2014!
