Let the Halloween BOO’ing begin! Have some friends, family, or neighbors that you would love to share some Halloween spirit with? BOO It Forward with these fun Marshmallow Mummy Pops and share them in these fun and simple Halloween BOO Bags complete with lots of MARS® and Wrigley® Fun Size Candy and a card letting them know they’ve been BOO’d! You’ll start a fun fall tradition that will get everyone into the spirit of the season!
We live in a neighborhood where Halloween is a huge deal! Weeks before the spooky night, you’ll see homes decorated with everything from festive fall decor, to the spooky and scary skeletons and ghosts. The weather is some of the best of the year, and as the leaves turn, it’s not uncommon for people in our neighborhood to be out socializing on cool, fall days. This makes for the perfect time to get our tradition of BOO’ing going once again.
If you’ve never hear of BOO’ing it goes a little something like this. First, you make a fun treat basket, bucket or bag loaded with all of your favorite treats. Included with the goodies is a card letting your friend know they’ve been BOO’d. You’ll secretly deliver the BOO Bag, maybe leaving it on a friend or neighbors doorstep, maybe a coworkers desk, or surprising a well-deserving teacher in the school teachers lounge. It is their job to then “BOO It Forward” to one of their friends, neighbors or co-workers.
Last year, we had loads of fun BOO’ing our neighbors (check out our cute Pumpkin BOO Basket loaded with Halloween Candy Bark from last year) and we’re super excited to continue the fun Halloween tradition of BOO’ing our friends once again.
In addition to the MARS® and Wrigley® Fun Sized Candy that loads our BOO bags this year, I’ve also created these spooky (and super simple!) Marshmallow Mummy Pops to go into our Boo Bags. Not only are they a cute addition, but they make for a fun theme to get everyone in the Halloween spirit!
We made sure to stop at our local Walmart to get all of the supplies we needed to make our BOO bags, as well as properly fill them with all the fun goodies and treats. Make sure to stop by the candy aisle to pick up packages of SNICKERS® Fun Size, M&M’S® Fun Size, TWIX® Fun Size, as well as Skittles® Original Fun Size, STARBURST® Fun Size and Life Savers® Gummies Fun Size bags. These are also perfect for stocking up for trick-or-treaters come Halloween night! Walmart is definitely a one-stop-shop for getting everything for creating the ultimate BOO’ing kit!
The first thing I made for our BOO bags were these simple Marshmallow Mummy Pops. We started by sorting the M&M’S® candies by color, which create the spooky mummy eyes. To secure the eyes to the marshmallow, simply dip a toothpick into the white candy melts, and dab a bit on to the backs of the M&M’S® candies. Place close together on the marshmallow, creating eyes.
The next steps is coating the marshmallows with the white candy coating to complete the look of the mummy. You can either use disposable candy coating bags (found near the cake decorating section at Walmart), or simply use a resealable plastic bag. Place the melted candy coating into the bag, and cut off the tip of the bag with scissors. Squeeze out the candy coating using long sweeping strokes over the marshmallows. Feel free to go over the tops and the bottoms of the eyes to make the mummies appear even more spooky!
Let the marshmallow pops set for at least 30 minutes to allow the candy coating to set and harden. You can either leave the pops uncovered, or place in clear treat bags.
The next step in building our BOO bags, is creating the actual bag that will hold all of our goodies. Walmart has a great selection of American Greetings® treat and candy bags, tissue paper, Halloween stickers and decals, gift bags, and card multi-packs, great for making the perfect BOO bag for surprising your friends and neighbors. I chose these simple black paper bags (they also have Halloween themed bags, too!), and used glitter glue to write “BOO!!”
Next, I cut the top of the bag off, so it would adequately fit the Mummy pops, and hold lots of candy.
I then used a piece of Styrofoam to help secure the mummy pops. This will help them stand upright, and keeps the bag from toppling over.
Next, I placed some of the American Greetings® black tissue paper around the base of the bag. This adds some pretty contrast to the mummy pops, and also helps hide the Styrofoam. Feel free to get creative with the colors of paper. Green, orange and even silver would look really awesome!
Once the tissue paper is in, start filling your BOO bag with lots of candy. We chose plenty of M&M’S® Fun Size, STARBURST® Fun Size, TWIX® Fun Size, Skittles® Fun Size and some Life Saver® Gummies Fun Size, too.
Place as much candy as you want into the BOO bags. Not only will your friends and neighbors love the treat, they will really appreciate getting into the spirit of the season with such a fun, festive and thoughtful gift!
The last step is making sure you have this cool Ghostbusters Themed BOO It Forward Card. Print out the card here. Not only does this let your friends know that they’ve been BOO’d, but it also gives them instructions on how to “BOO It Forward” to their friends and family, too!
Another awesome addition to a BOO Basket would be to include the new Ghostbusters® DVD. This would make a fantastic Ghostbusters® Themed movie basket. Ghostbusters® is available on DVD in stores 10/11.
This really is a fun and exciting way to get your entire neighborhood into the spirit of Halloween. We had such a fun time last year, and are really excited to get BOO’ing again this season!
