What do I need to make a cottage cheese smoothie?
- Cottage cheese – I recommend either 2% or 4% fat cottage cheese, as this will provide optimum flavor and creaminess. I don’t recommend non-fat cottage cheese.
- Milk – I prefer vanilla unsweetened almond milk, however, feel free to use your preferred dairy or plant-based milk.
- Frozen strawberries – frozen strawberries are a great economical option compared to fresh berries, especially when berries are out of season. These can be found with the rest of the frozen fruits in the freezer section of the grocery store.
- Frozen Banana – you can buy pre-sliced bananas in the freezer section, or simply slice some bananas and place in a lined baking sheet in the freezer for a few hours. Store in a freezer bag for smoothies later.
- Sweetener – I like and prefer granular monk fruit sweetener, however, you can also use honey or maple syrup to sweeten your smoothie.

How do I freeze fruit for smoothies?
Freezing fruit like sliced bananas, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries is very simple. Line a baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper to prevent the fruit from sticking to the pan.
Freeze the fruit on the baking sheet for at least 3 hours or overnight. Once the fruit is frozen, store in freezer bags or containers to use for later.
Freezing your own fruit is ideal, especially when fresh berries are in season and you can get a large quantity for a good price.

How do I make a cottage cheese fruit smoothie?
Start by adding all of the ingredients to a clean blender jar. Secure the blender jar with a tight fitting lid. Blend on medium-high speed for 45-60 seconds or until all the ingredients are pureed and smooth.
Why does my blender have a hard time blending the frozen fruit for my smoothie?
If your blender is having a hard time getting through the frozen fruit, you likely don’t have enough liquid. Stop the blender and add about 1/4 cup of additional milk. This will help the blades cut through the frozen fruit easier.
How do I make my smoothie thicker?
If you like a thick smoothie, start with a little less liquid or add slightly more frozen fruit. This will help create an ultra thick texture.

Ingredient Add-In and Recommendations for smoothies:
- Chia Seeds – these are great to add some extra fiber and protein to your smoothie.
- Collagen or Protein Powder – ideal for adding extra protein, protein powders come in a variety of flavors. Choose a powder that best fits your dietary needs.
- Leafy Greens – try adding a few handfuls of fresh baby spinach or kale to your smoothie. It’s a fantastic way to increase the nutrients and fiber in your smoothie.
