Do you absolutely love ordering a flaky, delicious cheese Danish with your coffee at Starbucks? You can now make a strawberry version of that flaky, creamy pastry in no time.
This strawberry Danish recipe is not only simple to make, it needs just 5 easy ingredients. Made with store-bought puff pastry sheets, this recipe is the easy way to make Danish at home.
What do I need to make strawberry cream cheese Danish?
- Puff Pastry Sheets – these can be found at your local grocery store in the frozen foods section, located with the desserts. If puff pastry sheets are unavailable, you could use a tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough as a substitute.
- Cream Cheese – I recommend using regular cream cheese, however, you could also use a Neufchatel or reduced fat cream cheese.
- Sweetener – I used a granular monk fruit sweetener to keep the calories on the lower side, however feel free to use regular granulated sugar.
- Vanilla extract – this gives the cream cheese mixture an amazing flavor.
- Fresh strawberries – using fresh, sliced strawberries is ideal. However, if strawberries are out of season, feel free to use frozen berries that have been thawed.

How do I make strawberry Danish at home?
Begin by mixing together the cream cheese mixture. Start by softening the cream cheese in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. This will allow to easily mix the mixture together with the vanilla and sweetener without being lumpy.
Unfold a single sheet of puff pastry onto a cutting board. A package of frozen puff pastry will include two sheets. You will only need one sheet for this recipe.
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the sheet of puff pastry into six rectangles.
Place the puff pastry onto a sheet pan that has been lined with parchment paper.
Spread about two tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture onto each piece of puff pastry. Using a knife or off-set spatula, spread the cream cheese mixture over the center of the puff pastry, leaving a 1/2 inch perimeter.
Once the cream cheese mixture has been added to each piece of puff pastry, the strawberries can then be added.
Top each pastry with about 2 medium to large strawberries that have been sliced. If you are using frozen strawberries instead of fresh, make sure the berries are slightly thawed before adding them to the pastry.
Ingredient Substitutions and Recommendations for making Strawberry cream cheese puff pastry:
- Using frozen strawberries instead of fresh. If fresh strawberries are out of season, using frozen blueberries is a great alternative.
- Granular monk fruit sweetener instead of granulated sugar. I personally love Whole Earth granular monk fruit sweetener for baking, and used it in this recipe. It sweetens the cream cheese filling perfectly without adding any refined sugar.
- Refrigerated crescent roll dough instead of puff pastry. If puff pastry is not available, refrigerated crescent roll dough is a good swap. The texture will be slightly different, but flavor will remain the same.

How do I make powdered sugar glaze?
Powdered sugar glaze is simple to make, and needs just powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. To make the glaze, add the powdered sugar to a small bowl, then add in the milk and vanilla. Stir the mixture well until all the powdered sugar is absorbed. The mixture should be slightly thick and creamy and coat the back of a spoon.
If you want a thicker, frosting-like consistency, gradually add more powdered sugar until you reach the desired consistency.
What can I add to frosting to change the flavor?
To change the flavor and consistency of a glaze or frosting, you can add several ingredients. To change the flavor profile, consider adding lemon, maple, almond or mint extract to compliment your pastry or baked good.
To change the consistency, try adding cream cheese to make a thicker or creamy glaze or frosting. Check out my post on How to Make Cream Cheese Frosting, which is amazing on cakes and pastries.
