The spring and summer months bring copious amounts of fresh strawberries. As a kid, strawberries were my absolute favorite fruit. My mom had a small strawberry patch near the clothesline beside our small family home in rural South Dakota.
As an adult, strawberries are still one of my absolute favorites. I love turning these red, sweet berries into everything from my Strawberry Coffee Cake, Strawberry Shortcake Overnight Oats, to a delicious Strawberry Shortcake Martini! Because cream cheese is also a perfect compliment to fresh strawberries, making this delicious Strawberry Danish Breakfast Braid has been on my must-make list for quite a while.
An amazingly simple strawberry danish, this breakfast treat comes together in no time at all.
Here are the simple steps to making this delicious Strawberry Danish Breakfast Braid:
Step 1: Roll out crescent dough and spread cream cheese mixture
The secret ingredient that makes this delicious breakfast braid so simple is the store-bought crescent dough. This is a huge time-saving shortcut to making this breakfast pastry, and makes the prep come together quickly. I prefer using non-perforated crescent dough, but I realize not all stores carry this.
If you cannot find the non-perforated crescent dough, pick up a tube of the regular crescent dough. Press together the perforations with your fingers.
Next, cream together the cream cheese and 2 Tbsp. of the granulated sugar. Spread in the center of the dough, leaving about 4″ in each side, and about an inch or two at the bottom and top.
Step 2: Cut 1″ strips on the long sides of the dough
Using kitchen shears or a sharp knife, cut diagonal 1″ strips into the sides of the dough. This certainly does NOT have to be perfect.
The dough will actually be stretched and folded, so if your strips are uneven (or even cut in the wrong direction – like what I did in the next photo), its not a big deal at all. 🙂
Step 3: Top the cream cheese mixture with the berries
To the chopped strawberries, add the remaining 2 Tbsp. of granulated sugar and corn starch. Stir together to coat the berries. Then, pour the berries over the top of the cream cheese mixture that has been spread on top of the pastry dough.
Step 4: Fold the dough over the top of the berries to create the breakfast braid
Next, starting at the end, begin folding the dough strips on top of each other. Alternate each side to create a braid-like design. Continue until all of the strawberries are encased into the dough.
Step 5: Sprinkle the top of the dough with turbinado or raw sugar
This is a fantastic way to add some texture to this strawberry danish. Each bite will have a tender crunch from the sugar atop the pastry. Sprinkle the sugar over the top of the braid and the place into the oven to bake. Bake at 375 for 15-18 minutes. The pastry will bake to a beautiful golden brown – at this point you’ll know it’s done.
Step 6: Mix the glaze while the pastry is baking
While the pastry is in the oven, mix together the glaze. Once the breakfast braid comes out the oven, let cool for a few minutes. Then, drizzle the pastry with the glaze while still warm.
Slice and enjoy!
This strawberry cream cheese Danish is amazing served while still warm. Enjoy with a Vanilla Bean Iced Coffee. It’s fantastic for your next brunch or weekend breakfast treat.
I hope this recipe inspires you to enjoy the amazing flavors of fresh strawberries this spring and summer. As soon as this pastry hits your lips, the sweet, creamy flavors will take you back to your childhood of eating berries fresh from the strawberry patch. Enjoy! ~Erin

Can you freeze this strawberry Danish braid
Erin Indahl-Fink says
Yes, this can be frozen. I recommend cutting into individual slices, and wrapping in press-and-seal wrap. Then store in a freezer bag or in a resealable container. When ready to thaw, leave out at room temperature overnight or thaw in the fridge. Warm in the microwave or better yet, in a toaster oven. Great with a cup of coffee. Enjoy! -Erin
Misty says
Does it have to be refrigerated after made
Erin Indahl-Fink says
Yes, I would recommend refrigerating any leftovers. Because the fruit tends to be quite juicy, the pastry will become quite saturated if left out at room temperature. Refrigerated leftovers will last 2-3 days.

I made this but with strawberry cream cheese instead of regular and it was amazing!!
