This Ham Cheese & Broccoli Pasta Skillet is one of those meals for our family. My husband and I love pasta and the addition of the smokey, delicious ham is a bonus for us all!
The ham that I use in this awesome pasta dish is the Boar’s Head SmokeMaster™ Black Forest Ham! I got this ham at my local grocery store at the deli section. I had the ham sliced extra thick, which makes for a wonderful addition to my pasta dish.
This ham is naturally smoked with imported German Beechwood, which results in an amazing, smokey flavor that is complimentary with the cheese sauce and broccoli in the pasta dish. I really love cooking with the Boards Head SmokeMaster™ Black Forest Ham, and have even developed some of my own Smokehouse rules when cooking with this amazing, smokey delicious meat!
Erin’s Smokehouse Rule #1: When cooking with a wonderfully smokey, flavorful meat, pair it with a complementary cheese.
In my pasta dish, I made a fantastic two-cheddar cheese sauce using white cheddar, and extra sharp cheddar cheeses. This makes for a fantastic sauce that coats the pasta, broccoli and ham perfectly, but doesn’t overpower the smokey flavors of the ham.
Yes, ham is fantastic in a sandwich, but don’t forget about all the other amazing ways you can enjoy a delicious, smokey meat. Add it to a delicious soup to make it more hearty, make your plain baked potato “loaded” with extra ham, and even top your favorite pizza with a generous amount of smokey, delicious ham like my Thin Crust Smokehouse Pizza.
Erin’s Smokehouse Rule #3: Don’t over-season the dish – let the smokey flavor do the seasoning for you.
When cooking with a smokey, flavorful ham like Boars Head take a little bite to enjoy before you begin cooking. You’ll quickly discover that you don’t need much, if any additional seasoning in your meal. The smokey, rich flavors will shine through and offer amazing taste for the entire dish.
