How do I make a strawberry spinach salad?

To make a strawberry spinach salad, you’ll need fresh, baby spinach, fresh sliced strawberries, sliced celery (optional), pickled red onions (optional), 1/2 avocado peeled and sliced, and chicken (rotisserie or grilled) for additional protein.

I used leftover store-bought rotisserie chicken from Costco. Costco is a my favorite place to get rotisserie chicken. You can also get it pre-shredded and vacuum-sealed in 2.5 lb packages. Want more Costco meals? Check out my page with all of my Favorite Things to Buy at Costco and dozens of recipes for each ingredient.

Costco is also a great place to buy fresh spinach, strawberries, avocados and walnuts!

What can I add to a strawberry spinach salad for protein?

You can add grilled or rotisserie chicken to this strawberry spinach salad recipe for extra protein. Adding a hard-boiled egg is also a great option to add more protein.

Here are a few more topping options for your strawberry spinach salad:

  • walnuts
  • sliced or slivered almonds
  • goat cheese crumbles
  • feta cheese crumbles

Is avocado strawberry salad healthy?

Yes! This avocado strawberry salad is wonderfully healthy, especially if you are making your own dressing.

What makes this strawberry spinach salad healthy?

The spinach, avocado, strawberries and walnuts are all super-foods. They are anti-inflammatory and contain multiple vitamins and minerals, along with insoluble fiber with helps aid in digestion. The avocado and walnuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids (the GOOD fats!) which will also help keep you feeling fuller, longer.

What dressing is good on a strawberry spinach salad?

I recommend making your own dressing for this strawberry spinach salad recipe. Most store-bought salad dressings contain very unhealthy, ultra-transfat oils (soybean oil, canola oil, corn oil, ect.) They almost always have added sugar, usually disguised as high-fructose corn syrup. With these two very unhealthy ingredients many bottled salad dressings top out at 140-160 calories for 2 Tablespoons.

Instead, make your own dressing. There are two great dressing ideas for this Strawberry Spinach Salad Recipe: Balsamic Vinaigrette or Creamy Poppy Seed Dressing.

Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing: 1/4 c. balsamic vinegar, 1 Tbsp. olive oil, 1 tsp. minced garlic, salt and pepper. Whisk thoroughly. 2 tablespoons of this dressing is a serving.

Creamy Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing: 1/3 c. plain Greek yogurt, 3 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice (juice of 1 large lemon), 2 tsp. granular monkfruit sweetener like Lakanto, and 1 tsp. poppy seeds. Whisk thoroughly. 2 tablespoons of dressing is one serving.

What is the best poppy seed dressing?

Don’t buy store-bought poppy seed dressing. Most store bought poppy seed dressings contain loads of refined sugar and unhealthy oils.  Making your own poppy seed dressing is healthier, less expensive and will taste much better with fresher ingredients.

Is poppy seed dressing good for you?

No. Most store-bought poppy seed dressings contain loads of added sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup, and unhealthy mega-transfat oils. Don’t buy store-bought; make your own poppy seed dressing.

Here’s the recipe for my Creamy Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing: 1/3 c. plain Greek yogurt, 3 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice (juice of 1 large lemon), 2 tsp. granular monkfruit sweetener like Lakanto, and 1 tsp. poppy seeds. Whisk thoroughly. 2 tablespoons of dressing is one serving.
