If you love a flaky, fresh pastry with your morning coffee, then this blueberry Danish is for you! Assembled quickly with just 5 simple ingredients, you can have a Danish fresh out of the oven in just minutes.
Made with store-bought puff pastry sheets, along with cream cheese, and fresh blueberries, this Danish recipe is great for enjoying a breakfast treat anytime you’re in the mood.
In this post I’ll show you how to assemble these easy blueberry Danish, tools that keep the process simple and the ingredients you’ll need.
What do I need to make Blueberry Danish?
- Puff Pastry Sheets – these can be found in the frozen foods section of the grocery store where the desserts are located. If puff pastry sheets are unavailable, you could use a tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough as a substitute.
- Cream cheese – I recommend using regular cream cheese, however, you could also use a Neufchatel or reduced fat cream cheese.
- Sweetener – I used a granular monk fruit sweetener to keep the calories on the lower side, however feel free to use regular granulated sugar.
- Vanilla extract – this gives the cream cheese mixture an amazing flavor.
- Fresh blueberries – When baked, the blueberries puff up slightly and become extra juicy. If fresh blueberries are out of season, feel free to use frozen blueberries.

How do I make cream cheese Danish with puff pastry?
Start by letting the frozen puff pastry come to room temperature. It will be easier to work with when it has thawed for at least 45 minutes at room temperature. Once thawed, cut a sheet into six rectangles. A pizza cutter works well.
Mix together the cream cheese, sweetener and vanilla. It’s best to have the cream cheese at room temperature, or slightly softened. This makes it easier to incorporate the sugar and vanilla. I use this same cream cheese mixture in my Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish recipe.
Spread about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture over in the center of each piece of puff pastry. Then, add fresh blueberries on top of the cream cheese mixture.
Ingredient Substitutions and Recommendations for Blueberry Danish:
- Using frozen blueberries instead of fresh. If fresh blueberries are out of season, using frozen blueberries is a great alternative.
- Granular monk fruit sweetener instead of granulated sugar. I personally love Whole Earth granular monk fruit sweetener for baking, and used it in this recipe. It sweetens the cream cheese filling perfectly without adding any refined sugar.
- Refrigerated crescent roll dough instead of puff pastry. If puff pastry is not available, refrigerated crescent roll dough is a good swap. The texture will be slightly different, but flavor will remain the same.

How do I make powdered sugar glaze?
You’ll need powdered sugar, milk and vanilla to make a simple pastry glaze. Mix together until the ingredients are thick and creamy. Add more powdered sugar to make the glaze thicker, add slightly more milk to make the glaze thinner.
Drizzle over the baked blueberry Danish and let cool for 5-10 minute before serving.
