Looking for a recipe for chicken salad without mayo? My no mayo chicken salad with grapes recipe is flavorful, crisp and completely delicious. Made with Greek yogurt instead of mayo, this chicken salad also includes red grapes, mandarin oranges and sliced almonds for the best crunch.

Easy & Healthy Chicken Salad without Mayo

Most fast-food and store-bought chicken salad recipes are made with loads of mayonnaise, making them rather heavy and greasy. Now, you can make your favorite on the healthier side and keep all the flavor and freshness.

Much like my Greek yogurt tuna salad and Healthy Egg Salad recipes, this healthy chicken salad recipe is made with Greek yogurt. A great alternative to mayo, which is loaded with better ingredients giving you more flavor and crunch.

This chicken salad also has yummy grapes, mandarin oranges and crisp almonds, making it super flavorful and delicious!

Ingredients needed for Greek yogurt chicken salad.

What do I need to make no mayo chicken salad?

Here’s a quick-reference checklist of the ingredients you’ll need to make this chicken salad:

  • Cooked chicken – I like to buy pre-cooked rotisserie chicken at Costco. This helps save time and already comes pulled. Check out the 15 Things I Buy at Costco for Healthy Meals and Snacks.
  • Lemon juice – this helps preserve the flavor and adds a nice tanginess to the chicken salad.
  • Greek yogurt – this takes the place of the traditional mayo or sour cream that is normally used in chicken salad. It still provides great creaminess without the heavy, oily texture.
  • Green onion – adds some nice flavor and crunch.
  • Celery – some would argue it’s not chicken salad without celery. Slice finely and/or dice for ideal texture and crunch.
  • Red grapes – red grapes will offer some welcome sweetness to the salad. You can also substitute green grapes if you prefer.
  • Mandarin oranges – fantast for a pop of orange color, oranges also provide some nice sweetness to the flavor. When buying, look for oranges that are packed in water, and drain before using.
  • Sliced almonds – almonds will add a restaurant-quality look to your salad. It also adds a great texture and crunch.

How do I make chicken salad with grapes?

To make chicken salad healthy, start by substituting the mayonnaise for plain Greek yogurt. It is a much healthier base and is less heavy and oily.

To the Greek yogurt, add cooked, diced chicken, lemon juice, garlic salt, green onions and diced celery and stir together to coat.

Add in halved red grapes, mandarin oranges and sliced almonds. These are all optional add-in’s but really add to the flavor and texture of the chicken salad.

How many calories in chicken salad with Greek yogurt?

For this Greek Yogurt chicken salad, there are 224 calories, 19 grams of protein, 11 carbs and 13 grams of fat. This recipe makes 6 servings.

What chicken should I use for chicken salad?

I use and recommend Costco’s pre-cooked hand-pulled rotisserie chicken breast meat. It is wonderfully convenient and a great time-saver. You can also roast chicken breasts in the oven. Check out my tutorial for How to Bake Chicken at Food.com.

Love the convenience of cooking with rotisserie chicken? Check out my other recipes that use precooked chicken:

Meal prepping no mayo chicken salad:

What’s the best way to meal prep chicken salad?

I recommend storing the mixed chicken salad in a meal prep container, and pairing it with fresh veggies, hard-boiled eggs for extra protein, and rice cakes or lettuce leaves for enjoying the salad. Some other good protein sides would be cottage cheese, vanilla yogurt with berries or a homemade peanut butter protein bar.

How long does chicken salad last?

Chicken salad will last up to 5 days stored in an air-tight container and refrigerated. Another great lunchtime meal prep option are my Ground Beef Taco Bowls, which can also be prepped in advance.

Can I lose weight eating chicken salad?

You can lose weight eating chicken salad as long as you’re in a calorie deficit. Here are some tips to making healthy chicken salad:

  • Use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise as your base.
  • Instead of heavy breads or croissants, enjoy your healthy chicken salad on rice cakes, low-carb wraps or in lettuce wraps.
  • Measure your serving of chicken salad. A serving is 1 cup.

Is store bought chicken salad healthy?

Typically, store-bought and fast-food chicken salad is not healthy. In fact, chicken salad can be one of the more calorie-heavy items on the menu. This is because they are made with large, unhealthy amounts of mayonnaise and served in calorie-heavy breads.
