Served icy cold, this refreshing melon mojito recipe is perfect on a hot day. Cantaloupe or honeydew, lime and mint, along with Rum make this drink wonderfully refreshing. Fantastic for Cinco de Mayo, too!

During the hot, dog-days of summer a cold, refreshing cocktail always hits the spot. This melon mojito, made with fresh cantaloupe or honeydew melon is a fantastic way to enjoy summers best flavors.

Made with fresh mint leaves, lime juice and topped off with club soda, this drink is made in just minutes. Great for enjoying during the hottest days of summer, or whenever you’re in the mood for a cold, refreshing cocktail.

Ingredients needed to make a melon mojito, include fresh melon, mint leaves, lime juice, Rum, simple syrup and club soda.

What do I need to make a melon mojito?

  • Fresh melon – feel free to use either cantaloupe (orange) or honeydew (green) melon for this cocktail. The flavor are somewhat similar and both fruits work well in this cocktail.
  • Lime juice – a traditional ingredient in most mojito recipes, the acidity of the lime juice balances the sweetness in the cocktail.
  • Mint leaves – essential for any mojito, mint leaves are muddled with the melon to release their flavor and essence. Fresh mint can be found in the herb section of the produce section of your grocery store.
  • Rum – a white rum is the most traditional liquor for a mojito. I use and prefer Bacardi, but any white rum within your budget will work.
  • Simple syrup – used to help sweeten this cocktail. If you’re looking to cut down on the sugar, limit or omit the syrup completely.
  • Club soda – a mojito it typically topped with club soda to give it a carbonated fizz.

For exact ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions please scroll down to the bottom of the post to the recipe card. Thanks!

How do I make a mojito?

Begin by placing the melon and mint leaves into the bottom of a cocktail shaker. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, a mason jar also works well.

Using a muddler or back end of a wooden spoon, mash (muddle) the melon and mint together. This helps release the flavors and essence of the fruit and mint together.

Once the melon and mint have been muddled, add in the Rum, syrup, and lime juice. Top off with ice.

Place the lid on the cocktail shaker and secure tightly. Shake together well to combine all ingredients.

How to serve a mojito

Once you’ve shaken the mojito in the cocktail shaker, fill a glass with ice. Strain the cocktail over the ice. Top with club soda to give the drink some fizz.

Making large-batch mojitos:

If you’re making a large batch of mojitos, I recommend doing the muddling and adding the liqueur, syrup and lime juice, then pouring into a mason jar and refrigerating for later.

Once ready to serve, pour the cocktail concentrate over ice (half a glass), then top off with the club soda just before serving.

What should I garnish my mojito with?

A sprig of mint leaves, lime slices or a spear with melon balls are all great options for garnishing your drink.

I usually find the taste of mojito’s too strong but I think that the simple syrup and the melon would make this perfect for me to try. Thanks for sharing!

I would love it if you would share this on my weekly link party : )

Whenever I purchase a not so sweet melon I like to make smoothies or drinks with it. My not so sweet cantaloupe was perfect for this recipe and I also love mojitos! Thanks! Enjoying the last days of summer! Kaye P.S. I also like single serving cocktail recipes!
