Fudge Brownie Protein Bites
Okay, so here’s my thing. About 4pm I start getting a little hangry. I can usually stave off hunger with some fruit, but at this point if I don’t have anything healthy at the ready, I’m going straight for the chocolate. Can you relate? Four pm seems to be my witching hour – I’ve usually done a pretty good job with making healthy food choices up until this point. However, I’ve had many, many days where things go completely off the rails because I give in to my sweet tooth. I’m come up with a plan-of-attack; these Fudge Brownie Protein Bites.
These Protein Bites are the ultimate healthy snack!
I knew that when having some pre-made snacks on hand, I could make a much better choice when it came to having something sweet. These chocolate protein bites are the perfect option. Each bite has 8.25 grams of protein, and tastes like brownies – seriously, it’s the best of both worlds! A serving is 2 bites, therefore you’ll giving yourself 16.5 grams of protein – which makes for a really smart snack option. What makes these even smarter is that they’re grain-free, gluten-free, low-carb and Paleo-friendly. If you want to make these truly Paleo, omit the chocolate chips. You’ll still get the great chocolate flavor in each bite.
How to make these chocolate protein bites
These couldn’t be easier to make. Simple add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl, with the exception of the water. Stir together, then gradually add in the water 1 tablespoon at a time. The dough will begin to come together and become slightly sticky.
From here, use a cookie scoop or tablespoon(measuring spoon), and scoop out the protein bites. Then, using your hands, roll into balls. I then place on a cookie sheet that has been lined with plastic wrap (you can also use waxed or parchment paper) to prevent them from sticking to the pan. Refrigerate or freeze until the bites are firm – at least 1 hour. I then place 2 bites (1 serving) in individual snack-sized freezer bags, then place in the freezer. You can also place in an air-tight container and refrigerate or freeze if that’s what works better for you.
These Chocolate Protein Bites are the Ultimate Make-Ahead Snack
Perfect for taking to work, packing in your lunchbox, or simply keeping in your freezer, these protein bites are the perfect make-ahead snack. Does your chocolate craving hit late at night? Keep a batch of these protein bites in your refrigerator or freezer, and you’ll be armed with a great snack that you won’t feel guilty about at the end of the night.

Notes
The protein content per serving will be contingent on the protein powder and type of nut butter that you use. The protein powder that I used is 20g per serving (80g total for the recipe, and the nut butter is 7g. With the almond meal, the total protein is 99g, divided by 12 = 8.25g protein per bite, or 16.5g protein per serving.
