Made with just 5 simple ingredients that you likely already have in your refrigerator and pantry, this flatbread pizza can be assembled in just minutes. In moments you can have a fresh, tasty pizza in less time that it would take for a pizza delivery.
What do I need to make a barbecue chicken flatbread?
- Pizza Crusts – I used these ultra thin mini pizza crust (pack of 2) from Target. I’ve also listed a few more pizza crust options below, both store-bought and homemade.
- Chicken – this Oven Roasted Diced Chicken Breast by Tyson is a simple, quick option for a pizza topping. You could also use shredded chicken, leftover rotisserie chicken or my Slow Cooker BBQ Shredded Chicken.
- Shredded Cheese – I chose a three-cheddar blend, as cheddar is more traditional for bbq chicken pizza. Feel free to use mozzarella or any other cheeses you prefer.
- Barbecue sauce – I used my homemade honey bbq sauce for this recipe, as I prefer a sauce without refined sugar. Feel free to use a sauce you prefer and enjoy.
- Red onion – red onion is traditional for a barbecue chicken flatbread pizza. The flavor is very complementary.

Best barbecue sauce for making flatbread pizza
For this barbecue chicken pizza recipe feel free to use any barbecue sauce you prefer. I chose my homemade honey barbecue sauce, as it is made without refined sugar. The flavor is amazing and perfect as a pizza sauce.

I found both of these crust options at Target. I’ve included links below where you can get these crusts.
- Stonefire Artisan Thin Pizza Crust – this resembles Naan, and has a great texture for making pizza.
- Good & Gather Organic Ultra Thin Mini Pizza Crust – this is a great lower-calorie option for making pizza. Once it comes out of the oven it is thin and crispy!
- Flatout Pizza Crusts – this is another fantastic low-calorie crust option that comes in a rectangular shape.
- Homemade Whole Wheat Pizza Crust – this recipe is by my friend Melissa at Bless This Mess Please. This is a great option for a homemade crust.

What makes this barbecue chicken flatbread so easy?
This recipe is super simple, as it uses ingredients that many already have on hand at home. These 5 ingredients are also very easy to find in the grocery store, and numerous substitutions can be made.
The flatbread crust does not need to be homemade. In fact, I recommend using some great store-bought, low-calorie options (listed above) for quick assembly. The assembly of this pizza takes approximately 5 minutes, and the cook time for this recipe is 12-14 minutes.
How do I make a bbq chicken flatbread pizza?
Start by adding barbecue sauce to your crusts. Depending on the size of crust you use, you’ll need about 2 tablespoons for each of these 6″ crusts. Spread the sauce evenly over the crust with a spoon.
Toppings for barbecue chicken flatbread
Next, add the diced chicken to the crusts with sauce. Then, add the sliced red onion. The onion can be sliced or diced.
Just before baking add the shredded cheese to the pizzas.
Once baked and out of the oven, top the pizzas with an additional drizzle of barbecue sauce, diced red onions and minced parsley for a garnish, if desired.
Slice the pizza into quarters for easy eating!
FAQ’s about making homemade bbq chicken pizza:
Traditionally, a bbq chicken pizza includes barbecue sauce as the sauce, diced or shredded chicken, red onions and shredded cheddar cheese.
A baking stone, pizza pan or sheet pan lined with parchment paper can all be used for making homemade pizza.
If you are using a pre-made flatbread crust, bake a flatbread pizza at 400 degrees. If you are using a homemade pizza dough, your oven will need to be hotter, at 450 degrees.
When using a premade flatbread crust, the pizza will only need 12-14 minutes to bake. If using a homemade crust, the pizza will need to bake at a higher temperature for longer, 20-25 minutes.
What can I serve with bbq chicken flatbread pizza?
Pizza is great served with a fresh, crisp salad. Here are some of our favorite side salads and dressings for salad:

BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizza
Equipment
- Sheet Pan A sheet pan, baking stone or any other pizza pan can be used for this recipe.
- Pizza Cutter This pizza wheel by OXO makes cutting pizza, pastries or other crusts easy!
Ingredients
- 1 6" flatbread pizza crust (see blog post for all crust options)
- 3 Tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 4 oz. chicken precooked, grilled or shredded chicken
- 2 Tablespoons red onion sliced or diced
- 1/4 cup cheddar cheese blend shredded
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Place flatbread crust on a baking stone or sheet pan. Spread 2 tablespoons of the sauce onto the crust with a spoon, to nearly the edge. Reserve the remaining sauce for topping the pizza after it has baked.
- On top of the sauce, add the chicken, onions and cheese.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted and lightly browned.
- Remove from oven and top with the remaining barbecue sauce. Let cool for 5 minutes. Cut into quarters and enjoy while warm.
