These Christmas Tree Donuts are a fun, morning treat perfect for the holidays! Adorned with M&M’s® Milk Chocolate and M&M’s® White Peppermint, these festive baked cake donuts are fun to decorate with everyone in the family. The perfect treat to enjoy with hot chocolate!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love the holidays! The smell of fresh pine trees, goodies baking in the oven, and hot cocoa for sipping on cold days. I especially love bringing my family together to make special, festive treats like these Christmas Tree Donuts! Shaped like a big Christmas tree, these donuts are really easy to bake right at home, frosted to resemble pine needles, and decorated with yummy M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies – how cool is that?!
To pick up everything I needed for my festive donuts, I stopped at my local Walmart. I stopped by to get a gallon of Great Value Milk in the dairy department (it’s always on my list!) I also checked out the easy & convenient center baking section, where Walmart has lots of essential baking staples, like the Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix and Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting . This baking center is located in the back near the dairy section. I also cruised through the seasonal candy area, where I was able to pick up the M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies – I always love the new flavors of M&M’s®!
Have you heard about the Great American Milk Drive yet? Even though many of us regularly have milk in our refrigerator, many families don’t often have that luxury. Nearly 1 out of ever 6 children – 46.5 million Americans – rely on Feeding America food banks each year. Even though milk is in high demand at food banks, they’re only able to provide milk about once a year, as it is rarely donated. That’s because while Americans are generous with canned and dry goods, many don’t think to donate milk because it’s perishable. Unfortunately because of this milk scarcity, many children are missing out on the essential nutrients, calcium and protein that milk provides.
Here’s how you can help! For a small donation at pourmilklove.com The Great American Milk Drive will deliver a gallon of milk – and all of the essential nutrients, including protein, that it provides – to a family in need in YOUR local community. This is such a wonderful way to have a positive impact on our community! Log onto milklife.com/give to learn about the need for more nutritious foods in America’s food banks and how your small donation can make a big impact.
Additionally, when you purchase 2 bags of M&M’s® at Walmart (9.4 oz bags or larger), up to a gallon of milk will be donated to the drive! You can also save $1.00 on ANY TWO (2) M&M’s® Chocolate Candies, 8 oz or larger – get the coupon here.
Once I got my gallon of milk home, along with my Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix and Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting, and the M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies, I got to work, baking up these fun donuts! If you’ve ever baked donuts before, you know they’re pretty simple, especially with the help of a cake mix!
The batter comes together quickly. I used a resealable gallon-sized bag, and cut off the end, to pipe the batter right into the cavities of the donut pan. This works really well! Once the donuts came out of the oven I let them cool, and then placed them into a triangular shape, that resembles a Christmas tree. I also placed a donut at the bottom to resemble the trunk of the tree.
From here, I began frosting the donuts. The pretty green frosting was perfect for these fun, festive donuts! I used two containers of frosting – one for the base coat (see photo above), and then another container to pipe on pine-needles. I used a grass-tip (#234), which looks fantastic!
From the photos above, you can see the base coat of the frosting, along with the second piped coat. I then began decorating the tree with the M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies.
I used the larger M&M’s® White Peppermint to “string some lights” in diagonal lines. I also used the white candies to add a star to the top of the tree. At the bottom of the tree, I added the red and green M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate for the trunk of the tree, and added a few more green M&M’s® as ornaments! Feel free to get as creative as you like! It’s so much fun!
Enjoy these donuts with a delicious cup of Peppermint Hot Chocolate – made with the Great Value Milk and topped with the M&M’s® White Peppermint candies – for the perfect holiday treat!
Here’s the recipe for these fun, festive Christmas Tree Donuts:
- 1 (15.25 oz) Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix
- 4 egg whites
- 1 c. Great Value Milk
- 3 Tbsp. melted butter
- 2 (16.6 oz.) Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting
- 1 (8 oz.) bag, M&M's® White Peppermint candies
- 1/4 c. M&M's® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Generously spray 2, 6-cavity regular sized donut pans with non-stick baking spray. Set aside.
- With a hand or stand mixer, combine the cake mix, egg whites, milk and melted butter. Mix for about 2 minutes on medium low, or until batter is smooth.
- Fill the donut pan cavities 3/4 full with the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for about 13-15 minutes, or until slightly golden brown. Let cool in pan for about 5 minutes before removing the donuts. Transfer the donuts to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- With about 14 of the cooled donuts, form into a triangular Christmas Tree shape, leaving a donut for the trunk of the tree. Generously frost the donuts with a base coat of the frosting. Using a grass (#234) pipping tip and pastry bag, pipe on additional frosting to attain the pine needle look.
- Decorate the tree with the M&M's® White Peppermint candies, and M&M's® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies. Enjoy!
I hope your holidays are filled with laughter, joy and time with friends and family! Enjoy! ~Erin
