Start with salmon filets with a taco seasoning dry-rub
For this salmon tacos recipe I tend to buy good-quality, frozen salmon filets from Costco. I’ve discovered that Costco has the best price for frozen seafood, and you can get wild caught, Sockeye salmon for a great price.
If Costco isn’t available to you, look for either fresh or frozen salmon that is wild caught or sustainably farmed salmon.

Pro-Tip: Make sure you pat the salmon filets dry with paper towels before you add the seasoning. This will help achieve a crisper outer layer.
What is the best seasoning for salmon tacos?
Instead of buying taco seasoning, I now make my own! The benefits of making your own taco seasoning are that YOU get to control what is included. Most store-bought seasoning mixes include fillers like cornmeal, starches and/or refined sugar.

How do I cook salmon for fish tacos?
Cooking the salmon for these fish tacos is wonderfully simple. You can do it a couple ways – either your oven or your air fryer.
For your oven: Preheat to 400 degrees, and bake for 8-10 minutes depending on the thickness of the filets. You’ll know the salmon is done when it flakes with a fork and is no longer red in the middle.
For your air-fryer: Heat to 390 degrees and cook for approximately 8 minutes. This will vary slightly depending on the thickness of the filets you use. To check doneness, test with a fork – if the meat flakes and is no longer red inside it is done.

What tortillas are best for salmon tacos?
My family likes and prefers corn tortillas for tacos. I toast slightly on the open flame of my gas cooktop to warm just before serving. Corn tortillas do tend to tear while eating, but are still delicious.
Flour tortillas are also a good option. A little less nutritious, but will not tear as easily while eating.
What toppings should I add to salmon tacos?
This salmon tacos recipe goes great with just about any Tex-Mex toppings you enjoy. Here are just a few ideas:
- Classic Pico de Gallo Salsa

- Loaded Guacamole
