Easy Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix
Looking for a simple, delicious way to enjoy fresh summer peaches? This easy 4-ingredient cake mix peach cobbler is a fantastic summer dessert.
This recipe can use fresh, frozen or canned peaches, which makes it a dessert you can make almost any time of year. Served warm with vanilla ice cream, this easy peach cobbler recipe is amazing!
What makes this cake mix peach cobbler different than other recipes?
Unlike most recipes that use a cake mix, this peach cobbler uses a simple technique where the butter and cake mix are combine to make a crumble topping for the peaches. Other recipes simply dump a dry cake mix over fruit, which often leads to undesirable dry clumps of cake mix in your baked dessert. The cake mix crumble eliminates this by combining the melted butter and cake mix to create the perfect crumble topping to go over the fresh, frozen or canned peaches.

How do I make peach cobbler with canned peaches and cake mix?
Canned peaches make this cobbler even easier and a simple, year-round dessert. Use 2-3 cans (15 oz. each) of sliced peaches. Drain the cans of all the liquid and transfer to your baking dish. There’s no need to add extra sugar or sweetener, as the peaches in the syrup are already sweetened. Top with the cake mix crumble and bake as directed.
How do I make cake mix peach cobbler with fresh peaches?
If fresh peaches are in season, I would definitely recommend using fresh, ripe peaches and their flavor is unmatched. To prepare fresh peaches for making cobbler, the outer skin and pits will need to be removed.
You can remove the outer skin of a peach by blanching. To blanch peaches, bring a saucepan of water to a boil. Drop the peach into the boiling water using tongs or a slotted spoon for about 30 seconds. Remove from water and let rest on a paper towel to cool. When cool, the peach skin will slide right off. Once the skin has been removed, cut open, remove the pit and slice.
How do I make cake mix peach cobbler with frozen peaches?
Frozen peaches are a great option when fresh peaches are out of season. Frozen, sliced peaches can be found with other frozen fruit in the frozen foods section of the grocery store. When using frozen peaches, let the peaches thaw and come to room temperature before baking. Prepare the cake mix cobbler as directed.

How do I make a peach cobbler crumble out of a cake mix?
In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and then add the cake mix. Combine with a fork and mix until crumbly. I used a white cake mix, however, a yellow cake mix works just as well.
Can I make this peach cobbler with a gluten-free cake mix?
Yes! Simply substitute your favorite gluten-free yellow or white cake mix. (King Arthur, Pillsbury, and Betty Crocker all make gluten-free options.) All other ingredients are naturally gluten-free. Bake time and temperature stay the same.
Getting a good consistency for this easy Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix:
As you stir the butter and cake mix together it will take on a crumbly, gravel-like consistency. This really makes the perfect cobbler for your peaches and will absorb the juices of the peaches as it bakes.
A lumpy, gravel-like consistency is what you’re going for with the topping. Having lumps and clumps will ensure you have a crisp top, versus a soggy or powdery unappetizing topping. Evenly sprinkle the cake mix crumble on top of the peaches. If you get big chunks, or mix that isn’t quite incorporated, simply pinch it together with your hands, and crumble apart.
Pro Tip for making peach cobbler dump cake: There are several other recipes out there that have you dump the cake mix directly over the top of the peaches, and then pour the melted butter over that. I don’t recommend this method. Not only does the mix not bake evenly, but you also tend to have dry, powdery clumps of mix in the cobbler, which isn’t ideal.

How do I add more flavor to my peach cobbler with cake mix?
For deeper flavor, toss thepeaches with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar before adding to the baking dish. The cinnamon adds warm spice and depth and the brown sugar helps the peach juices caramelize as the cobbler bakes.
For a sophisticated twist, add 1/4 teaspoon almond extract in with the peaches. It pairs beautifully with the peaches and mimics the flavor profile of bakery-style cobblers. These additionas are completely optional but highly recommended.

Can I add nuts to my peach cobbler with cake mix?
Yes, definitely. I personally love the addition of chopped pecans, as it lends a great texture and crunch to the crumble. Add about 1/2 cup of chopped pecan halves to the top of the crumble.
Note for baking with pecans: if topping your cobbler with pecans, cover the top of the baking dish with foil. This will ensure the pecans don’t over-brown before the rest of the cobbler bakes. Foil can be removed the last 10 minutes of baking for everything to brown and toast evenly.

Frequently Asked Questions about Making Cake Mix Peach Cobbler
Bake the peach cobbler for 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees. If you’re adding pecans to your cobbler cover with foil to prevent the pecans from overbrowning. Remove the foil the last 10 minutes of baking.
I recommend using an oval baking dish or 9 x 13″ pan.
Cake mix dump cakes and cobblers typically use the exact same ingredients. However, a dump cake simply involved “dumping” the cake mix over the top of fruit, and then pouring the butter over the top. A cobbler involves combining the cake mix and melted butter, stirring together and creating a crumble that is then sprinkled over the top of the peaches.
Yes! Layer the peaches in a 4-6 qt. slow cooker. Top with the cake mix crumbles. Cook on high for 2 hours or on low for 3-4 hours. The topping won’t get as crispy as the oven version. To achieve that crispiness, pop it under the broiler for 3-5 minutes after for a golden top.
To freeze this cake mix peach cobbler, cool completely after baking. Wrap tightly with foil and freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, the reheat in the oven.
Yes! To make ahead, assemble as directed (unbaked) for up to 24 hours in advance. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Then bake when ready.
To store your peach cobbler, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. The cobbler will keep for up to 4 days refrigerated. The topping softens slightly but will still be delicious. To reheat, preheat oven to 325 degrees and heat for 15 minutes to restore the crispness. You can also microwave for 30-45 seconds for a quick warm-up.
Depending on the size of the peaches, you’ll need 6-8 medium to large peaches for this recipe. If using fresh peaches, they will need to be blanched, and outer skin removed. To blanch peaches, bring a saucepan of water to a boil. Drop the peach into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove from water and let rest on a paper towel to cool. When cool, the peach skin will slide right off. Once the skin has been removed, cut open, remove the pit and slice.
Mixing the melted butter and cake mix together creates a crumble topping for the cobbler. This creates a much more desirable topping than simply dumping a cake mix over peaches and pouring over butter. This often results in dry clumps of cake mix left unbaked in your dessert. Mixing the butter and cake mix together before being added to the top of the peaches creates a much more consistent crumble topping that crisps nicesly and bakes much more evenly.

Erin,in the past, I made this recipe with canned cherry pie filling but I think I will enjoy the fresh peaches even more! I already went out and picked up my peaches and a GF cake mix. Cant’ wait to try it.
Visiting from Calypso Link Party.
Question; I have a “What I’m Eating This Week” post every monday. Do you allow bloggers to use your pictures with the link back to your blog for the recipe?
thx,
Have made this twice, love it. Sonsimple, so delicious!!!
Suggest softening the butter rather than melting. When I melted the butter my cake mix turned to mush and wasn’t crumbly..
When using fresh peaches, should they be peeled first or can I leave the skin on?
Hi Judy! I recommend peeling the peaches. Once baked the skin will fall off the peach. Obviously, it certainly okay to eat, but the texture may be a little off. Enjoy! – Erin
I took this to the next logical level and used chocolate cake mix to make this.
Fantastic – thank you for the inspiration!
My peaches were not particularly ripe, so I added a teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons brown sugar to the peaches in a bowl and mixed it well – followed the rest of the directions.
Now when people kindly offer me bags of seasonal peaches, I’ll be less likely to turn so many down!
I’ve always made this and put slices of butter on top of the cake mix. But I’m about to make it right now and I’m going to incorporate the butter-but just not all the way….my family loves the chunks of dry cake mix! Don’t judge, please! Ha!
I’m also going to try adding cinnamon, it’s delicious in peach cobbler.
Thanks for sharing.
I added cinnamon and sugar to my peaches. I hope it turns out good.
Ok, love the recipe.
Great starter.
Sorry but I always need to embellish/add on to recipes.
I see recipes as a starter/suggestion.
1/2 cup of pecans is silly. Like 1 clove of garlic in a recipe.
Oh no, multiply by 2,3,4…
1 cup pecans roasted in air frier.
Plus as a twist I minced in a Tbs of crystalized ginger. Just
for fun.
Thank you for getting me going.
I controlled myself, thought of adding rum, whiskey, amaretto.
But no.
Maybe in a glaze afterwards.
God bless. Enjoy creating.
Have made it twice now, love it. Added a light sprinkle of cinnamon sugar over the top to give the crispy top and protects the pecans from over baking. I use pecans from my freezer, so as they bake they thaw and it was wonderful. Made with yellow and with white. Second time added a little vanilla to the butter before stirring in cake mix, so yummy! I love mixing the butter in instead of dry patches on the crust!
do you know how many cups of peaches you used
Hi Karen, approximately 4 cups of peaches. If you’re using fresh peaches, slice and peel them. If you’re using frozen, make sure they’re thawed. If you’re using canned, make sure you drain off the juice. Enjoy! -Erin
I blanched the fresh peaches- easy peasy
